The process of compiling programs for the Xena chip (found in the AmigaOne X1000 and X5000) is labor-intensive - files must be moved manually and the environment has to be configured. Gabrielle solves this problem by automating the workflow and making it easier for developers to experiment with this coprocessor. In addition to the script itself, a console (GabriShell) is also provided, enabling interactive experimentation, testing, and debugging of commands.

In the standard scenario, the user simply runs the Gabrielle script with a target name (e.g. gabrielle TARGET=wiggle.xe wiggle.xc). The script sends the source file to the Sai server, which compiles it into the target .xe format. The compiled file can then be executed, for example, with the XRunXE command.

The "Sai" server is the second element of the ecosystem - it receives the submitted files, compiles them, and returns ready-to-use binaries. Thanks to this, the user does not need to install the entire complex Xmos environment locally - the task is delegated instead.
